East Valley : Required Water Cuts Eased

Share

Due to a relaxation of drought-inspired restrictions, the Walnut Valley Water District has rolled back mandatory conservation requirements from the 20% level down to 10%.

The district serves 24,659 water customers in parts of Walnut, Diamond Bar, City of Industry, Pomona, West Covina and Rowland Heights.

The change went into effect April 1 and means consumers can use 10% more water without being penalized, district board President William G. Wentworth said.

“Our consumers have done an extremely good job of meeting their conservation goals,” he said.

The district is able to make the change, he said, because its water suppliers have relaxed the penalties that had been imposed.

But Wentworth pointed out the district still depends 100% on imported water to meet its needs.

That means, he said, a “drought-watch” was still in effect, and customers should try to still reduce the water they use by 10%.
