Birdathon--The Sea & Sage chapter of the National Audubon Society is hosting its annual “birdathon” Saturday.

The day of friendly but competitive birding is a way for the group to raise money for its programs. Birders work alone or in groups to spot as many species as they can during a 24-hour period and collect sponsors who pledge 25 cents or more for each species seen.

The birdathon is open to everyone, from beginning birders to experts.

Those who would like to bird on their own or form a team should contact the chapter office to get a sign-up sheet.

Wagon Wheel Trip--The Sea & Sage chapter is also sponsoring a birding trip to Wagon Wheel Regional Park on Tuesday.

The trip begins at 8 a.m. The park has huge-spreading old oak and sycamore trees and rolling hillsides.

Participants will be walking in dry creek beds and on old ranch roads, so they should wear sturdy walking shoes. They should also bring binoculars, water and a snack.

The entrance to the park is through the gated community of Coto de Caza, and advance planning coordinated with the park ranger at O’Neill Regional Park is needed to gain entrance.

Those who would like to participate are asked to contact the Sea & Sage chapter office at the phone number listed above.
