Ventura County Public Defender Kenneth I. Clayman has been elected president of the California Public Defenders Assn.

Clayman, 50, will take the reins of the 1,500-member organization on Thursday, just before its annual convention opens in San Diego. He will address the group during the two-day session.

“Ken has held just about every position in the association that one could hold,” said Michael E. Cantrall, the group’s executive director. He said Clayman is active on several criminal-law committees of the State Bar.
