LOS ANGELES : Ferraro to Leave Hospital Thursday After Surgery
Los Angeles City Council President John Ferraro will be released from Good Samaritan Hospital on Thursday after surgery for installation of a heart defibrillator, an aide said Tuesday.
Ferraro, 67, is expected to return to work as early as next week under a limited schedule, but is to undergo another operation for installation of the device in late May.
Doctors recommended the procedure to stabilize Ferraro’s heartbeat and to augment medication he has taken since a quadruple heart bypass in 1979, said spokeswoman Erin Egge.
Ferraro did not respond to the procedure that was done last week to install the defibrillator, Egge said, so he has elected to have more complex surgery.
