BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Ryan’s Start Pushed Back to Saturday
Nolan Ryan won’t be activated off the disabled list until Saturday, when the Texas Ranger pitcher is scheduled to start against the Red Sox at Boston, Ranger Manager Bobby Valentine said. Plans to start Ryan today against the Detroit Tigers were postponed because he wasn’t yet ready, Valentine said. . . . Jose DeJesus, Philadelphia Phillie pitcher, underwent shoulder surgery in Los Angeles for a torn rotator cuff and is expected to be out for at least 18 months, the team’s physician said. . . . Pitcher Jose Rijo was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Cincinnati Reds because of an inflamed tendon in his right elbow.
