Video Rental Chart : ‘Fisher’ Is New Rental King

Share

“Boyz N the Hood” is starting to slow down in the rental market while “The Fisher King” is just heating up. “The Fisher King,” getting a boost from the presence of Oscar winner Mercedes Ruehl, is the new rental king for this week, inching up a notch on the Billboard magazine chart. “101 Dalmatians” debuted at No. 9 but won’t be a long-running Top 10 rental because kids will be urging parents to buy it, since it’s discounted as low as $14. “Deceived,” the Goldie Hawn thriller, dropped a notch to No. 8 after entering last week at No. 7. Industry insiders and some retailers considered this one a shoo-in for the Top 5.

* The football comedy “Necessary Roughness,” which grossed a tidy $26 million in theaters, should be a popular rental. It debuted at No. 16 and should at least make the Top 10.

Rank Weeks Last on the Week Chart 1. “The Fisher King” 2 4 2. “Boyz N the Hood” 1 5 3. “Dead Again” 3 5 4. “Other People’s Money” 5 4 5. “Shattered” 8 3 6. “The Doctor” 4 5 7. “Curly Sue” 10 2 8. “Deceived” 7 2 9. “101 Dalmatians” ... 1 10. “Ricochet” 35 2 * “Necessary Roughness” ... 1
