Hughes Unveils Rural TV System: Hughes Communications said it has forged a $250-million agreement with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative to distribute 20 channels of programming via’s Hughes’ DirecTv system to homes with satellite dishes. The satellite TV service will be carried on the first U.S. high-power direct broadcast satellite, under construction at Hughes Aircraft Co. and scheduled for launch in December, 1993. The home-receiving systems, including an 18-inch satellite dish, will cost about $700.
