Beverly Palmer, lecturer in writing at Pomona College, has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to collect the documents of Thaddeus Stevens, a 19th-Century lawyer and congressman from Pennsylvania.

Among the issues he addressed were racial and economic equality, affirmative action and equal access to education.

Palmer, who joined the Pomona faculty in 1985, graduated from the College of William and Mary and received her master’s degree from UC Berkeley.
