VALLEY REGION : Mayors, Council Members Sworn In

New mayors and council members have officially been installed in the cities of Lancaster, Palmdale, San Fernando and Santa Clarita.

In Lancaster, two new councilmen officially joined the five-member group at its regular meeting Tuesday evening. Officials swore in Frank C. Roberts, dean of Antelope Valley Community College, and George Runner, an administrator at Antelope Valley Christian School.

The council also unanimously selected incumbents George Lee Root as the new mayor and the Rev. Henry W. Hearns as vice mayor.

In Palmdale, former councilman and restaurateur James C. Ledford officially took up duties Tuesday as the city’s newly elected mayor. New council member David Myers was also sworn in, along with Councilman Joseph Davies Jr., who was reelected last week.

In San Fernando, the City Council selected Jose Hernandez as mayor and Daniel Acuna as mayor pro tem.

The council welcomed two new members--Rosa Chacon, a Social Security worker, and businessman Raymond Ojeda.

In Santa Clarita, Councilwoman Jan Heidt was sworn in for a second term and was selected mayor pro tem.

New council member George Pederson was also sworn in.
