Magdaleno to Take On Kinchen in Main Event at Irvine Marriott

Share

Ernie Magdaleno, fighting for the first time since he won the California light heavyweight title, takes on James Kinchen tonight in the main event of the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott.

The bout is a non-title defense for Magdaleno (12-0), who fights out of the Westminster Boxing Club. He beat Bomani Parker when the two fought for the vacant state light heavyweight title Feb. 24 at the Forum.

Magdaleno dominated the bout and at 1:40 of the fifth round, Parker unexpectedly left the ring and returned to his dressing room. Magdaleno was awarded a knockout and the title.

Kinchen (49-8), of San Diego, will the most experienced opponent Magdaleno has faced.

Kinchen, with 34 knockouts, has fought and lost to many outstanding fighters--including Thomas Hearns, Virgil Hill and Iran Barkley.

The added bonus this month is a free “Battle in the Ballroom” T-shirt to everyone in attendance in honor of the 80th show at the Marriott. This is the eighth year of boxing cards being held at the hotel.

The first of five scheduled bouts starts at 7:30 p.m. No one under 16 is admitted.

There are 350 tickets remaining and they go on sale today at 10 a.m. in the grand ballroom of the hotel.
