Pasadena : Heists Believed Connected

Share

Authorities believe that a hole discovered in the roof of a Pasadena check-cashing firm was the work of the same people who employed a similar tactic to rob another local business last weekend.

“We feel there was a connection,” Pasadena Police Lt. Van Anthony said Thursday. “This is an unusual method.”

Employees of Security Check Cashing, in the 900 block of North Lake Avenue, discovered Tuesday that someone had cut a hole in the roof, Anthony said.

When a motion detector set off a burglar alarm inside the business at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s SWAT team surrounded the store, hoping to catch the intruders. But when officers finally entered the business six hours later, they did not find anyone, Anthony said.

Last Saturday, two armed men dropped into the office of another check-cashing business through a hole in the roof, handcuffed and gagged two employees, and fled with nearly $5,000.
