Abrams Beats Bryans for Title
Geoff Abrams proved to be double trouble for the Bryan family Saturday.
The 13-year-old from Newport Beach beat identical twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo to win the boys’ 14-and-under singles title of the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament.
Abrams defeated Mike, 7-5, 6-3, in the semifinals, and Bob, 6-2, 6-4, in the final.
“I played really well the first set (of the final),” Abrams said. “I made very few unforced errors.”
Both players remained on serve until Abrams scored a break in the ninth game, then held serve in the 10th for the match.
The title was Abrams’ second in eight days. He won the Easter Bowl April 17, defeating Bob Bryan in the semifinals.
Brandi Freundenberg of Orange was the county’s only other champion, defeating Vanessa Rooks of Spring Valley, 7-5, 6-4 to take the girls’ 16 singles.
