Carrying the Torch: Nashville will be the site of the Leonard Bernstein Center for Education Through the Arts, a new international center whose purpose will be to carry forward the educational legacy of composer-conductor Leonard Bernstein. The center will focus on three areas: programs of professional development for teachers, model programs for schools and ongoing conferences and research. In a statement announcing the center Monday, Alexander Bernstein, the maestro’s son, said his father had started working with the institute toward the end of his life as he explored the connection between the arts and learning.
