Boeing Co. said its first-quarter profit rose 42.7%, reflecting robust gains in its commercial jet and defense and space business.
The Seattle-based company said it earned $441 million in the three months to March 31, up from $309 million a year earlier. That translates to profit of $1.29 a share, compared to 90 cents in the first quarter of 1991.
Revenue jumped 30.8% to $7.97 billion from $6.09 billion a year earlier.
Boeing said the increase in its net earnings was due largely to increased commercial aircraft sales and to profit from the defense and space group, which reported a loss a year earlier.
Boeing also said it delivered a record number of commercial jets in the first quarter. It delivered 127 jetliners, up from 92 in the first quarter of 1991.
