From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Abortion-rights supporters in Buffalo, N.Y., said Operation Rescue’s drive to close clinics in the area had failed, as the day’s turnout on both sides of the issue amounted to fewer than 500 people. There were no arrests, and several women patients entered the target clinic. About 200 protesters faced about 200 counterdemonstrators across the street, and dozens of opponents of legal abortion prayed in the street until police warned them not to block traffic. The four women’s clinics in the area remained open through the week of demonstrations.
