Zilog Acquires Most of Avant Inc. Assets

A Northern California computer equipment maker said Monday that it has purchased most of the assets of Avant Inc., a designer of computer equipment based here, in a cash acquisition.

Zilog Inc. of Campbell said it had been using Avant to help it find new uses for its computer equipment for two years. It would not disclose the purchase price.

Zilog, a publicly owned company whose stock is traded in the over-the-counter market, makes custom semiconductor chips for a variety of functions, such as the micro-controllers that run fax machines and printers connected to computer networks.
