KING CASE AFTERMATH: A CITY IN CRISIS : Some Seek Refuge in O.C.
Some riot-weary Los Angeles County residents are fleeing the strife-torn, curfew-bound metropolis for the weekend--and Orange County appears to be a popular destination.
The posh Dana Point Resort sold out its 350 rooms this weekend, many of them to next-county neighbors seeking to flee the turmoil to the north. The hotel had to turn down dozens more.
“We don’t have smoke on our horizon and many people appreciate that,” said Penny Elia, a spokeswoman for the hotel. “We don’t look at them as refugees. They’re guests.”
Beachside hotels are not the only ones seeing an influx of people seeking refuge from the rioting.
At the Anaheim Marriott, near Disneyland, general manager Edward F. (Ned) Snavely said Friday evening that some Los Angeles County residents had checked in for the weekend.
They were assigned rooms that had been reserved for a few tour groups that had canceled because of the rioting.
