Dornan Plight Fails to Win Sympathy Vote

It’s an interesting coincidence that only two days separated your item about Rep. Dornan and the Friendly Skies and the report on the Ueberroth Council, which indicated that our legal system should address the problem of frivolous and marginal litigation (“The Ueberroth Vision: Fate Is in California’s Own Hands,” editorial, April 27).
Probably the council did not have in mind anything as serious as any action that might humiliate a U.S. congressman and make him feel “like a little waif.”
Rep. Dornan is certainly justified in tying up our courts and sending a message to United Airlines and any other company that deals with the public, to wit: “You will not treat any member of the U.S. Congress or government official as though he or she were just an ordinary citizen.”
As Leona Helmsley said, “Only little people pay taxes.” And now let’s add, “Rules are only for little people like you and me.”
