“Hack Attack” (Palm Latitudes, by Mark Ehrman, March 29), contained a series of appraisals of Los Angeles taken from the Prodigy electronic bulletin board service, including a paragraph suggesting that among L.A.’s best things were “San Pedro, and other unique neighborhoods.” What made San Pedro unique was that few Angelenos outside of it were aware of how pleasant it was here. Over the last two decades, the real estate industry and elements of the media have done their best to sell away this quiet anonymity, and the community continues to suffer the results in the form of overcrowding, excessive growth and increased crime. Stop telling everybody and his brother about our hometown. We don’t need any more looky-loos, real estate speculators, tourists, or population growth. Pick on somebody else for a while.
