A mystery remains for most viewers of Robert Altman’s takeoff on the Hollywood power structure, “The Player.” At the end of the film the audience hears the disembodied voice of the anonymous, postcard-writing screenwriter who has been tormenting a studio exec with death threats. Only those with amazing aural recall could match the voice with a character they saw earlier. Although Buzz won’t reveal who the postcard writer is (lest we spoil the film for everyone), we will give hints: The character has a small, very grave part in the film. And off-screen he’s the husband of Cynthia Campoy, who’s best known around town from her days as MOCA’s public relations manager.

Overheard at the AIDS Project Los Angeles fashion show extravaganza featuring Thierry Mugler’s outrageous designs on outrageous models: “Did you see that transvestite in the long gown?” one woman exclaimed to another. “She had a better figure than I have, and she’s a man. What’s wrong with this picture?”

Moving Orders

It was traffic as usual at LAX the other night as a police officer forcefully told drivers to keep their cars moving through the no parking zones. He wasn’t cutting anyone any slack, not even the white limo that pulled up to the curb, depositing a young woman who ran to greet her friend. “OK,” the cop shouted, “Bimbo reunion! MOVE IT!
