Judgment Against Magnetek Reversed: Magnetek Inc. said a California appeals court has reversed a $25.7-million judgment against the company’s Universal Manufacturing unit. An Alameda County Superior Court jury awarded the judgment to LMP Corp. in January, 1990. At issue was LMP’s contention that the Magnetek unit bought an electronic ballast design from LMP, then failed to honor commitments to market it. Magnetek contended that the design was unmarketable. Among reasons for the reversal of the judgment was the appeals court’s finding that the trial court allowed LMP’s attorneys to admit prejudicial evidence in the case, Magnetek said.
