Events of the Coming Week

Thursday: The Environmental Coalition of Ventura County will hold a forum for candidates competing in the 1st Supervisorial District at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 1338 E. Santa Clara St., Ventura. The district includes Ventura, portions of Oxnard, Oxnard Shores, Mandalay Bay and most of the Ojai Valley except Ojai. Supervisor Susan K. Lacey has declined to participate, but challengers Richard F. Massa, T. G. (Tom) Stafford, Ralph J. Steele and Carroll Dean Williams are scheduled to attend. For information, call Neil A. Thursday: Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan has postponed indefinitely his scheduled noon speech to students at Cal Lutheran University. Buchanan postponed his appearance because of the civil unrest in Los Angeles.

Thursday: Moorpark College is sponsoring a debate between Democratic congressional candidates Anita Perez Ferguson and Kevin Sweeney. The debate begins at 8:30 a.m. in Room 100 on the campus. Perez Ferguson and Sweeney are competing in the 23rd Congressional District, which includes Carpinteria and all of Ventura County except Thousand Oaks.

Saturday: U. S. Sen. John Seymour will hold a fund-raiser from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the historic Camarillo House, 3771 Mission Oaks Blvd. Seymour, a Republican from Anaheim, was appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson last year and is running for election in the statewide race. Donations are $125 per person or $225 per couple. For reservations and information, call Carolyn Leavens at 647-9277.

Saturday: Republican Assembly candidate Mike Berger will hold a barbecue fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cameron Center in Thousand Oaks. Berger is a candidate in the 37th Assembly District, which includes Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Reservations and a $15 donation are requested. Saturday: Democrat Assembly candidate Roz McGrath will hold a fund-raiser from 4 to 6 p.m. at the McGrath Family Farm in Camarillo. Donation is $50 per person. McGrath is a candidate in the 37th Assembly District. For information, call 482-4410.
