CAMARILLO : Council Expected to Vote on Raising Fees

The Camarillo City Council is expected to vote next week on whether to raise development-related fees to recover more than $311,000 that the city loses in providing services, City Manager William Little said Wednesday.

A fee study by David M. Griffith and Associates of Carmichael found that the city spends $991,000 to offer 78 services but recovers only about two-thirds of its costs. The consultant recommended raising the fees, which include charges for planning, engineering and city clerk services.

Judging by the council’s discussion at the last meeting, Vice Mayor Charlotte Craven said, “it was my impression that at least the majority of (the fee increases) would be adopted as recommended because of what our true costs were.”

Craven said the council does not want to make certain fees too high, such as the one for an encroachment permit, which is needed to alter city property to complete a private project.
