WORLD IN BRIEF : IRAN : Rafsanjani Backers Headed for Victory

Supporters of President Hashemi Rafsanjani were headed for a landslide victory over radical rivals in runoff parliamentary elections, a newspaper said. With more than a third of the ballots in Tehran counted, pro-Rafsanjani candidates were set to win all the capital’s 28 seats contested in the runoff, an official at Resalat newspaper said. Nearly half of the 270 seats in the Parliament were to be decided in the runoffs.
