New Phillips Director: Charles S. Moffet, a National Gallery of Art curator, will become the first non-family member to direct the Phillips Collection, a Washington museum founded in 1921 that today contains 33,000 works of modern art. Moffett, 46, senior curator of paintings and curator of modern paintings at the National Gallery since 1987, will succeed Laughlin Phillips as director in mid-September.
