Hughes to Build Torpedoes: Hughes Aircraft Co. has won a $183-million follow-on contract to build torpedoes for Navy submarines.

The company’s Ground Systems Group in Fullerton will build 324 guided torpedoes during a five-year period at a factory in Forest, Miss. Hughes, a subsidiary of General Motors Corp., has won $1.6 billion in torpedo manufacturing contracts since the 1970s.
