County Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez announced Monday that he will be leaving for Great Britain later this week to meet with British officials and discuss issues of “mutual concern” as a guest of that government.

Health care, economic development, the environment and immigration are all on the agenda, along with meetings scheduled with local government officials, Vasquez said in a statement.

Reg Holloway, Great Britain’s consul-general to the western U.S. region, said in the statement that “Supervisor Vasquez deals with many issues that find parallels in modern Britain.”

“I am certain this visit will prove to be of mutual benefit and will help cement the relationship between the U.K. and Orange County,” he said.

Each year, the British government invites U.S. community leaders to visit the country to compare notes, Vasquez said.

Vasquez is scheduled to leave Friday, an aide said. He will be staying for two weeks.
