Today: A reception for Republican congressional candidate Jim Salomon will be held at 7 p.m. at the Westlake home of Bill Murphy, 1299 Blue Sail Circle. Salomon, an international trade adviser, is running for the 24th Congressional District that includes Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Malibu and the western part of the San Fernando Valley. Saturday: A campaign fund-raising rally will be held for Ventura County Supervisor Maggie Erickson Kildee at the Santa Paula Depot, 10th and Santa Barbara streets, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tickets for $10 may be bought from a “conductor” at the door. Saturday: Dr. Jon Williams, a Republican Assembly candidate, will open his campaign headquarters between 2 to 4 p.m. for an informal meeting with voters, 2486 Ponderosa Drive North, Suite D-120, in Dos Caminos Plaza, Camarillo. Williams, a physician, is a candidate in the 37th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. For more information, call 987-3402.

Sunday: Movie actress Mary Steenburgen will host a fund-raiser for Democratic senatorial candidate Barbara Boxer from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Ojai home of Leone and Guy Webster. Rep. Boxer (D-Greenbrae) is running for the U.S. Senate seat of retiring Sen. Alan Cranston. A donation of $25 per person is requested. Reservations may be made by calling Dawn Brinker at 646-0859.

Wednesday: The Ventura County Chapter of the Coalition to End the Permanent Congress, a group that is backing congressional term limits, will hold its monthly meeting in the Fillmore Room of the Oxnard Community Center, 800 Hobson Way, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. For more information, call the group’s director, H.E.
