Alhambra : Fines for Car Alarm Noise
Owners of automobiles with sensitive alarms face fines from between $100 to $500 if they fail to switch off their car alarms within five minutes of their going off.
The Alhambra City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance Monday in response to complaints about noisy alarms disturbing people’s sleep. The measure went into effect immediately.
Car owners face fines of up to $100 for the first violation of the ordinance in a year’s time, $200 for the second violation in a year, and $500 for each violation thereafter in a year’s time.
The ordinance also allows the Police Department to attempt to deactivate the alarm after five minutes of ringing and to tow the car if that is not possible.
