Padre Manager Greg Riddoch was robbed of between $450 and $600 when his hotel room was burglarized while he was asleep Tuesday night.

“I’m just thankful I wasn’t killed,” Riddoch said. “If I had woken up, and startled him, who knows what would have happened.

“Man, I hate big cities anyway, and this just adds to my fear.”

Riddoch said he fell asleep at 1 a.m., got up at 8:20 a.m. When he reached to pull out the money clip in his jeans at 8:45, he realized he had been robbed.

“The scary thing is I actually heard the sound of coins jingling,” Riddoch said. “I thought I was dreaming. I guess I wasn’t.”

“It just leaves you with a rotten feeling in your stomach,” Riddoch said. “I can’t wait to get out of this city.”

The burglar apparently entered the side room of Riddoch’s hotel suite, which wasn’t bolted. Security at the Grand Hyatt Hotel is investigating the burglary.

“I don’t expect to hear anything,” Riddoch said. “I almost didn’t even report it, thinking, ‘Oh well, what do you expect, we’re in New York.’

“It’s sure not Greeley, Colorado.”
