San Diego : Uproar by Prisoners Ends Peacefully
Four inmates at the County Jail downtown refused to be moved to another housing area late Wednesday, touching off a disturbance in one of the housing blocks that holds 25 felony inmates, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Several small fires were set in the cell area where the prisoners barricaded themselves from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. Thursday, authorities said. There were no injuries reported.
The prisoners surrendered peacefully after SWAT officers were called into the housing area, officials said. Fire damage was limited to a plastic garbage can, mattresses and papers, authorities said.
