NORTH LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Rousselot Receives Visco Endorsement

Share

Former Rep. John H. Rousselot got a boost Thursday in his campaign for the Republican nomination in the 25th Congressional District, picking up an influential endorsement from Frank Visco, a former state GOP chairman.

Visco, a Lancaster insurance broker, had been courted by two other major GOP candidates--Assemblyman Phillip Wyman of Tehachapi and former Santa Clarita Mayor Howard (Buck) McKeon.

Rousselot, a former official of the ultraconservative John Birch Society who served in Congress for 14 years, is seeking a political comeback in the newly created 25th District, which covers the northern half of Los Angeles County.

Despite widespread voter antipathy toward politicians this year, Visco insisted that Rousselot’s long Washington experience is an asset. “John knows how to get things accomplished, and he will hit the ground running,” Visco said. “This is not the time to send someone without any experience to Washington.”

Visco’s backing comes on top of a string of endorsements from other high-profile GOP conservatives, including U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Jack Kemp and Orange County Rep. Robert K. Dornan.
