ANTELOPE VALLEY : School Official Remains in Hospital

Share

The superintendent of the financially troubled Antelope Valley Union High School District spent a second day in the hospital Thursday after complaining of chest pains earlier in the week and being admitted Wednesday.

Kenneth Brummel, 57, the top administrator of the 11,500-student district for nearly five years, was listed in good condition Thursday after undergoing tests and was expected to remain overnight at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center in Lancaster.

Brummel, who earns a base salary of $92,848, has been grappling in recent months with what has become a projected $12.4-million shortfall in the district’s $50-million budget. Aides said Brummel has had no similar health problems since he was hired in December, 1987.
