SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : 9% Water Rate Hike Will Be Discussed

Share

Citizens interested in hearing why their water rates will go up can attend a Capistrano Valley Water District board meeting Thursday.

Board members will be discussing next year’s budget and a 9% rate increase due to take effect July 1, district officials said.

Staff members will present their budget analysis and detail the causes of a recent 23% rate hike imposed by the Metropolitan Water District, which wholesales water to the Capistrano Valley Water District.

“That’s almost the sole reason for the rate increase,” said Jim Widner, manager of the Capistrano Valley Water District.

Also on the agenda is a possible change in the district’s tier price structure, which imposes a surcharge for homes exceeding the average residential water use.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in San Juan Capistrano City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto.
