John Roethlisberger of Afton, Minn., was the leader after the men’s compulsory portion of the U.S. Gymnastics Championships at Columbus, Ohio.

Roethlisberger had a combined score of 69.00 points in the six events. Scott Keswick of Las Vegas was second with 68.94 and Tim Ryan of Coopersburg, Pa. had 68.70.

The compulsory scores count for 60% of a competitor’s total. The other 40% comes from optional routines, which will be performed Saturday.
