LOS ANGELES : U.S. Sets Up Hardship Fund for Riot Victims

Share

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has made available $378,750 for mortgage or rental assistance to those facing financial hardships because of the riots. People who are in danger of losing their homes, being evicted or who are unable to make rental payments can receive the grants for as long as 18 months.

Applicants must get application and certification forms from one of the eight Disaster Application Centers. Individuals who have already registered for assistance must return to the center where they first applied to seek the special financial help from funds made available by the National Emergency Food and Shelter Program.

As soon as applicants are verified as eligible, funding can be received within 48 hours for up to three months of mortgage or rental payments. Applicants may request further payments if they still need help.
