Pemex May Relocate 3 Plants to Safeguard Residents in Wake of Deadly Blasts
Mexico’s state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is contemplating relocation of three plants to safeguard residents living nearby, the country’s leading financial daily said Friday.
El Financiero said Pemex may move the three plants--one in Aguascalientes state and others in Ciudad Victoria and Reynosa in Tamaulipas--sometime this year.
Earlier this week, President Carlos Salinas de Gortari gave Pemex 30 days in which to present plans for an overhaul of the company.
Four Pemex officials were among the nine officials indicted on charges including negligent homicide for failing to avert gas blasts in Guadalajara. The April 22 tragedy, traced to a gasoline leak from a Pemex pipeline, killed more than 200 people.
