3-D Systems Reports Profitable 1st Quarter

3-D Systems Inc. reported a first-quarter profit of $208,210, compared with a year-earlier loss of $2.1 million.

The Canadian company’s main holding is 3D Systems, a Valencia maker of machines that rapidly produce plastic-like models of industrial parts and other equipment for prototype use.

3-D Systems said the profit in the quarter that ended March 27 resulted from a 58% jump in the company’s sales, to $7.33 million from $4.63 million, and lower operating costs.

It was 3-D Systems’ first profitable quarter since the third quarter of 1990.
