The country’s construction union won 5.8% wage increases for a million workers, defusing Germany’s third major labor dispute this month. The union had been demanding 9.8% raises but settled for less after mediation by former Finance Minister Hans Apel. On Monday, agreement was reached by the IG Metall metalworkers union for 5.4% wage increases. Earlier, an 11-day strike by public service unions ended after an offer of a 5.4% pay increase.
