Eric Pleskow, the chairman and co-founder of dormant Orion Pictures Corp., has resigned, the studio announced Wednesday.

Pleskow will leave effective July 1, and Orion said it would not name a replacement. Orion has been under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from its creditors since December.

Orion, which has hit severe financial trouble despite its involvement with Oscar-winning movies “Silence of the Lambs” and “Dances With Wolves,” has no new productions in progress. Orion has been searching for a buyer, and three companies have submitted proposals to reorganize or buy Orion.

Pleskow had been chairman since April, 1991.

On Tuesday, a U.S. federal bankruptcy judge extended the deadline by which Orion must present a reorganization plan from Friday to June 22.
