Share

A fund-raiser to benefit women who have contracted the AIDS virus is scheduled June 7 at UC Irvine, featuring musical performances, food and exhibits.

The event will also feature an hourlong video documenting the experiences of women infected with the virus. “HIV: Women’s Voices,” produced by Valerie Gold-Neil, a Laguna Beach psychologist, will be shown from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Crystal Cove Theatre in the Student Center Building.

A photo essay called “This Is Our Yard,” about people affected by AIDS, will be on display, along with a panel from a quilt being shown around the nation in honor of people who have died of the disease.

The benefit, sponsored by Kutcher Sound Productions, will also include performances by comedian Lynda Montgomery. Musical artists will include Janine Del Arte and Slightly Altered, the Mustangs, Ronald Aguilera, and Vicki and Sheri. Musical acts will range from jazz and country to folk and rhythm and blues.

Nonalcoholic beverages, food and T-shirts will also be available. Tickets are $15 minimum, but organizers say no one will be turned away for lack of money.

About 12,000 people are believed to be infected with the HIV virus in Orange County, according to county health officials.

Women’s Voices, a branch of AIDS Services Foundation of Orange County, will use the money for its support services.
