Maria Stewart, who has been acting city clerk for the past four months, has been appointed to the job permanently.

The City Council last week bestowed the $60,500-a-year job on Stewart, as well as accolades from Mayor Rick Cole.

“We have been extraordinarily impressed with her performance in taking over the job four months ago,” Cole said.
