With the introduction of a bill to prevent the distribution of condoms to minors or near public schools, Assemblyman Gil Ferguson has once again enhanced his stature as a dean of reversionary thinking.

What he labels an “anti-AIDS” measure is exactly the opposite. If passed, the bill would promote the spread of AIDS among youths who, as a group, tend to be fairly sexually active and poorly informed about the methods of AIDS virus transmission. Ready access to condoms, coupled with an active educational campaign, can reduce significantly the spread of the virus. GREGORY M. AVIS
