Moldovan President Puts Country on War Footing
Moldova’s president took steps Sunday to prepare his tiny country for war, ordering the call-up of reserves and other measures to combat what he called armed aggression by Russian forces.
The Russian Itar-Tass news agency said that President Mircea Snegur also put the resources of the defense, national security and interior ministries under his own control as commander in chief.
Moldova has accused Russia of deploying its men and equipment on behalf of Russian-speaking separatists now in open rebellion inside the republic.
