International Remote Imaging Systems Inc. reported a profit of $130,522 for the first quarter that ended March 31, compared with a year-earlier profit of $16,767.

The Chatsworth maker of urinalysis machines said revenue rose 38%, to $1.75 million from $1.27 million a year earlier. The company attributed the latest results to increased sales of instruments, and improvements in manufacturing and field service efficiencies.

International Remote also said it recently obtained clearance from the federal Food and Drug Administration to use its urinalysis workstation to perform blood-cell counting in body fluids, a procedure used to determine bleeding and infection in body cavities.
