Venezuela’s Non-Oil Exports Shrinking: Venezuela’s non-oil exports continued shrinking this year despite efforts to reduce economic dependence on oil, which still accounts for close to 90% of export revenue, the newspaper El Universal reported. Non-oil exports, including iron, aluminum and coffee, fell 11% to $756 million from January through April, down from $852 million during the same period last year, the newspaper said, quoting figures from the Venezuelan Foreign Trade Institute. Non-traditional exports have been falling steadily since 1989, when the government launched a free-market-oriented economic reform program.
