After the Riots / NEWS IN BRIEF : SUPPORT : Computers Give Advice, Information

Share

L.A. Project, an ad-hoc group of high-tech companies that works with state, county and city officials, has placed state-of-the-art talking touch-screen computers at six sites in Los Angeles to provide residents with up-to-date information on social services.

The computer systems will advise residents--in English or Spanish--where to find food, clothing, shelter, counseling, emergency job-placement training, small business assistance and numerous other services. The computers can also provide potential volunteers and donors with information about where their goods or services are most greatly needed.

Later this week, two more computers will be installed at other locations to provide information in Korean and other languages.
