A car that flew 75 feet in the air off the Antelope Valley Freeway was destroyed Tuesday, but the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered only minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 52-year-old Canyon Country man attempted to pass a car by driving on the center divider at an estimated 75 to 85 m.p.h. when the car went out of control near Sand Canyon Road in Santa Clarita and sailed into the air off the freeway embankment, CHP Officer B.A. Dibene said. The car came to rest about 300 feet from the freeway.

The driver, whose name was not released, was treated for minor injuries.
