Pasadena : Block Grants Approved

The City Council has approved about $2 million in federal block grants, including $58,000 in special spruce-up funds for the city's Northwest community.

The Resource Allocation Commission, an advisory group appointed by the council, had pared $4.7 million in requests from community, housing and church groups to $2.1 million. Funded programs range from emergency shelter and anti-delinquency projects to parenting classes and nutrition for the handicapped.

The council, at its meeting Tuesday, withheld funding for the Pasadena Housing Alliance and the Armenian Relief Society to determine whether alternative money sources could be found.
