PALMDALE : Rescue Squads Revive Tot Who Nearly Drowned

Share

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and Fire Department paramedics on Thursday saved a 10-month-old Palmdale boy who had nearly drowned in a bucket of water and cleaning fluid.

The boy fell head-first into the half-full five-gallon bucket at his home about 12:40 p.m. The child’s mother had stepped away for a moment and returned to find her child upended in the bucket, Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Dennis Vlach said.

The toddler was not breathing when sheriff’s deputies arrived and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Paramedics continued CPR as deputies rushed the medical team and the baby to Palmdale Hospital in the back of a patrol car. Doctors managed to restore the boy’s heartbeat and the child was airlifted to Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar in very critical condition, Vlach said.
